FAQ

Common questions

What does "kwenta" mean?

In Cebuano and Filipino, kwenta means a count, an account or a sum. People also say "may kwenta" when something is worth it. It's exactly what we do.

Do I need a CPA for my business?

Most small businesses need a CPA only for audited financial statements, which are required once gross sales pass a certain threshold, and for some BIR matters. Day-to-day bookkeeping and filing don't need one. When you do, our partner CPA handles it and we coordinate everything.

I'm a freelancer paid from abroad. Do I still need to register with the BIR?

Yes. Income earned by a Philippine resident is taxable here, even if your clients are overseas. Registering also gives you an ITR for visa, loan and credit card applications. Freelancer Start gets you set up for ₱6,000.

What is the 8% option?

Self-employed individuals with gross receipts up to ₱3 million a year can elect to pay a flat 8% on gross receipts above ₱250,000, in place of graduated income tax and percentage tax. We'll tell you whether it saves you money before you choose.

I'm behind on my filings. Can you help?

Yes. We check for open cases with the BIR, record your backlog, file missed returns and work out the penalties. Catch-up bookkeeping is ₱2,500 for each month behind.

How do I send you my documents?

Through a shared Google Drive folder or WhatsApp, sorted into Sales, Expenses, Bank, Payroll and BIR. Photos of receipts are fine.

Which areas do you cover?

Metro Cebu: Cebu City, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu and Talisay. Most of the work happens online, and on-site visits are available for ₱1,500.
